What Is Cross-Docking Service?

Cross-docking is a shipping practice that involves taking the items from an incoming truck and loading them directly onto another truck for outgoing delivery. The primary advantage of this practice is that it drastically cuts down on the amount of storage space needed for items because they are not being kept in the shipping facility for a long time between drop off and delivery. The major drawback of cross-docking is that it requires a good deal of planning and scheduling in order to run smoothly, and it may not work in facilities that operate using a small number of loaders and unloaders.

To find out whether or not cross-docking is right for your facility, or to get answers to any questions you may have, contact one of our logistical consultants at 866-678-4107 today.
